Plane crash in Brazil's São Paulo state kills all 62 on board

A tragic plane crash occurred in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, claiming the lives of all 62 people on board. The twin-engine turboprop, en route from Cascavel in Paraná to Guarulhos airport in São Paulo, crashed on Friday in the town of Vinhedo, as reported by Voepass airline.

Footage shared on social media shows the plane spiraling downwards before impact. After initial confusion about the number of passengers, Voepass confirmed on Saturday that the ATR 72-500 aircraft was carrying 58 passengers and four crew members, all of whom perished in the crash.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva expressed his condolences to the victims' families and friends, while São Paulo's state Governor, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas, declared three days of mourning.

The plane crashed in a residential area, but fortunately, no one on the ground was injured. Authorities have retrieved the flight recorders, and ATR, the aircraft manufacturer, has pledged to cooperate with the investigation.

Local residents witnessed the crash, describing the terrifying moment as the plane descended in an abnormal spiral. This disaster marks Brazil's deadliest plane crash since 2007, when a TAM Express plane crashed at São Paulo's Congonhas airport, resulting in 199 fatalities.

Emergency personnel from nearby Valinhos responded to the scene, and ATR has expressed its condolences and commitment to supporting the investigation into this tragic event.
